The expansion of the Three Rivers Water Trail throughout the Pittsburgh region continues to be a top priority for Friends of the Riverfront and our partners including Allegheny County and the Pennsylvania Environmental Council. Monongahela River
Braddock
Friends of the Riverfront has recently completed the community planning process for an access site in Braddock along the Monongahela River at 11th Street. A License and Maintenance Agreement has been signed by the Borough allowing use of the site by paddlers. We are currently in the fundraising/design phase for installation of site amenities including signage and canoe/kayak rack for storing craft.

Elizabeth
The Borough of Elizabeth recently signed an agreement for the development of a Three Rivers Water Trail Landing at their riverfront aquatorium. Funding is complete for the access, Click Here to view a preliminary layout of the site. Parking for Water Trail users is currently under discussion as part of an overall revitalization of this riverfront community.

Mon Wharf
Interest in the development of a canoe/kayak access at the Mon Wharf consistently remains high. Several individuals already use nearby sites to kayak to and from the golden triangle for work. Friends of the Riverfront is partnering with Riverlife to make sure accommodations are being made. Funding is nearly complete for site amenities, Click Here to view the design of a kayak rack planned for the site.

Allegheny River
Sharpsburg
Thanks to the PA Fish and Boat Commission, the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and several other funders, the Borough of Sharpsburg has developed a significant riverfront park off of 13th Street. Part of the site already includes a ramp and signage for the Three Rivers Water Trail. Funding is secured for a canoe/kayak rack that is currently being fabricated.

O’Hara
Development of a non-motorized access point in O’Hara Township’s Chapel Harbor development is well underway. A License and Maintenance Agreement has already been signed. The site is partially funded and is now in the sign phase to accommodate better access. Currently the site is open and, in its primitive state, serves as a great access pathway to the Allegheny River.

Sycamore Island
Sycamore Island is now in the care of the Allegheny Land Trust. The Trust is currently working on a management plan of the island’s future and we anticipate the accommodation of light use by paddlers. Additional details will soon follow. Oakmont
Plans for an access at the terminus of Washington Avenue have been made, and a License and Maintenance Agreement signed with the Borough of Oakmont. Funding for site amenities has been secured. Friends of the Riverfront is currently working with municipal managers on the layout and design of the site.

Ohio River
Westhall Street
Friends of the Riverfront is proud to pursue the development and environmental restoration of a new access along the Ohio Riverfront at Westhall Street. The access, within the City of Pittsburgh, will accommodate paddlers, anglers and offer interpretive signage on riparian buffer zone animals. Removal of invasive species has begun. We are now in final design stages and working with local interest groups to ensure this new public resource will serve the community’s needs for riverfront access. Sewickley
Friends of the Riverfront is pleased to partner with the Borough of Sewickley in the development of a Three Rivers Water Trail Access with the Riverfront Park. The License and Maintenance Agreement has been signed and a layout of the signage and canoe/kayak rack is currently in review with municipal managers.
